Community's future tied to Lake Simcoe
Community's future tied to Lake Simcoe - Dec 23, 2004
Re: Sick lake needs unity, cash, group says, Dec. 9.
This article on Mayor Rob Grossi's Lake Simcoe forum hits at the heart of the issue.
Lake Simcoe needs a large infusion of cash. It also needs the collective spirit and determination of all of the municipalities in the watershed showing a common front and exerting political pressure on the provincial and federal governments to take immediate and decisive steps to restore Lake Simcoe to a healthy state.
By extension, the collective voice of citizens around the lake is equally and perhaps more powerful in raising Lake Simcoe's profile. No one organization, no matter how representative, can do it alone.
It requires everyone's input and participation.
For example, the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, representing groups of ordinary citizens, are banding together to create a groundswell of support to collectively raise their concerns on the health of the lake.
Each and every one of us has an important role to play in restoring Lake Simcoe. Our future, our quality of life are intertwined with the lake.
