Simcoe Fish community bouncing back after goby treatment

Fish community bouncing back after goby treatment

As many of your readers will know, the Ministry of Natural Resources took the serious step of treating the Pefferlaw Brook in an effort to eradicate the round goby, an invasive species. This action was taken in an attempt to head off the serious impacts of round goby should they reach Lake Simcoe. The ministry would like to thank residents and businesses of Pefferlaw for their understanding, support and co-operation. We recognize this was a controversial action. The ministry will continue monitoring the brook. At this point, all indications suggest the project was successful. We are encouraged to see the system is already showing signs the fish community is responding as predicted. This project would not have been possible without the strong partnership and support provided by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority, the Bait Association of Ontario, local bait harvesters, Shimano Canada Ltd., Pefferlaw Anglers Association
